Over/Under is a half hour, dark comedy series about an impulsive mother who navigates the aftermath of her gambling addicted father’s death while keeping his ghost at bay.
Over/Under is a limited series set over 8 episodes that takes a darkly funny look at the character Margaret Diamond’s stumbling, stirring and impulsive attempts to navigate grief. The series toggles between issues of loss, intergenerational wounds and the often unspoken rage that bubbles under modern motherhood. The ways in which Margaret solves exactly how to replace her father’s remains are intercut with the events leading up to his death and we get a portrait of a woman who has a hole in the center of her world, left by her father. And no amount of donuts, obsessive mothering or phony self-help groups can fill it. She has got to figure out a way to put her father and her own restless spirit to rest.
EPISODE 1: “The Mourning After”
Margaret’s mother, Joanne and her best friend and psychic “Aunt” Sharon blindside Margaret by bringing an urn containing the remains of Joanne’s husband, Frank on vacation to Las Vegas. Margaret sets down some baggage and unexpectedly unleashes the spirit of Frank in full force.
EPISODE 2: “A Meeting For Good Mothers with Dark Thoughts”
Three months later, back home in Hoboken, NJ, Margaret reaches for connection in an after hours playground support group setting. When that goes bust, Frank makes it clear that he isn’t going anywhere until Margaret navigates the tricky waters of motherhood and grief. A package arrives from Sin City.
